I follow up with the university to check its OK having decided to take the plunge and move to Eliot's apartment. I like mine but it does have a few shortcomings: no air-con, old furniture, the WIFI doesn't work so I have to use an ethernet cable, I have some noisy neighbours upstairs and there has been incessant maintenance work on the building meaning for 7 days a week I'm disturbed by heavy-duty power tools. In China they seem to use heavy hammer drills for everything. Putting up a mirror? DRRRRR! DRRRRR! New kitchen? DRRRR! DRRRR! New shower? DRRRR...... you get the picture. It seems the building is in disrepair at times. It takes me a few days to pack everything and I do feel sad to leave: I sometimes ask myself if I'm doing the right thing as for the time being all the noise has stopped!
Anyway here is the old.....
And the new...
Getting ready. About 7 of my students help me to move everything over to the new block.
Here we are in the new one.
It takes me a day to re-organise, stock and clean the kitchen.
One thing I quickly learn is that the new flat is somewhat smaller than the old, so there is less storage space. I find it a challenge to store everything and have to find creative solutions for this. It takes me about a week to unpack all the stuff and find room for it!
